District swim meets are under way to go along with district competition in soccer and basketball, producing finalists for the Apple Dental Center Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week.
The Caller-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.
Students in all varsity sports are eligible and can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.
IWA boys basketball player Talon Chanyaman had 22 points and 11 steals in a win against rival John Paul II.
Orange Grove boys basketball player Wyatt Miller had a 31-point outing against Falfurrias to keep the Bulldogs in second place in the district standings.
The poll will close Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.
