El Paso Chihuahuas, Locomotives unveil new $1-$5 menu, birria tacos
Summary
El Paso Chihuahuas and Locomotive fans will be excited to know there will be a $1 to $5 menu at the baseball and soccer games this year.
The Bargain Bites menu was part of the unveiling of the new menu on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Southwest University Park.
We're "creating something that our fans will be able to enjoy and will be able to experience every day, every game and every match available at Chico's Eats & Treats, behind Section 120," said Angela Olivas, vice president of Marketing and Communications.
Opening Day for the El Paso Chihuahuas at home is slated for Tuesday, April 7, at Southwest University Park versus the Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies affiliate). The El Paso Locomotives season will kick off at Southwest University Park on Saturday, March 7, with a home match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
The MountainStar Sports Group’s culinary staff also unveiled a myriad of new foods for season 2026, including new versions of hot dogs and chicken sandwiches, as well as new items such as ribs, birria tacos and rice bowls.
Maria Barragan Hurtado, executive chef, said that she and her staff are inspired by social media trends and talk to fans before deciding on new menus each year.
"We ask people around the ballpark and we try to look at TikTok and what's trending nowadays and try to brainstorm. One of them was the rice bowls because it's something creative to offer and is kind of build your own," she said.
New this year on the beverage front will be mocktails and some tasty new cocktails, some in souvenir jars.
Here is what you need to know about the top foods to order this season.
Culinary staff said they really listened to fans in coming up with a bargain menu with different price points.
The Bargain Bites menu consists of:
$2 items include Sugar Cookies (2-pack), a kid-size fountain drink, or small popcorn
$3 items: hot dog, bean and cheese taquitos, small nachos, Pasta Pomodoro, or 12-ounce Budweiser
$4 items: Pretzel bites with cheese, BBQ meatballs
$5 items: Pimiento chicken salad sliders.
Birria is such a popular food item in El Paso that it is great to see it on the stadium food menu this year.
This year, fans can order the Quesabirria tacos, the Quesabirria quesadilla or the Torta Ahogada Birria. Any of these items will be $14.
We got to try the Quesabirria tacos and loved them. The corn tortillas are dipped in the flavorful consommé, placed on a hot griddle and topped with tender shredded brisket and melted Monterey Jack. You can top the tacos with cilantro and diced onions. Fans will get the consommé on the side.
Move over, turkey leg, or pass it on to your brother. The deep-fried ribs have arrived at the stadium and we approve.
The ribs will be served in an order of four and come with mac and cheese for $15. The ribs are crispy and drizzled with a tangy, sweet BBQ sauce and will be a fun food to eat at the games.
Rice Bowls are fun to eat because you can choose your favorite protein over white rice and also your toppings.
The stadium will offer three different types: brisket, ground beef and pulled pork. They will cost $13.50 each.
We sampled the pulled pork rice bowl and found it to be super delicious and filling, with different layers of rice, tender pork, fresh veggies like diced tomatoes, pico de gallo, and lettuce and finally a zesty jalapeno crema. Or you can also choose the spicy ranch crema.
The hot dogs are, without a doubt, one of the most popular game foods around. And this time will not be different.
The stadium will be offering a footlong-sized Juárez dog for the big appetites at $18, as well as the regular size for $12.50.
We sampled the Footlong Jalapeno Popper Dog and it was fantastic. The weiner is wrapped in bacon, as it should be, and then topped with a jalapeno popper and a creamy and only a bit spicy jalapeno sauce.
For the meat lovers, another take is the Bootmaker Dog, which consists of a footlong hot dog in bacon, then piled with pulled pork, sweet grilled onions, and fresh jalapeno and topped with a drizzle of BBQ sauce.
The ladies will love these new cocktails: the Mazapan Mudslide and the Cazadores Pineapple Margarita. Cost: $18.75 and served in a 20-ounce souvenir mason jar.
The Mazapan cocktail is made with tasty Kahlua and peanut-butter tequila for a nutty good time, topped with crushed Mazapan. And the margarita is a fine option on a hot day, thanks to its citrus flavor.
